So I upgraded to the new OS.

I have a 3GS and right now I would recommend maybe not upgrading.

It has slowed the phone down and the new features I dont really even use.

It is also buggy and crashes apps and the Internet browser occasionally.

I did notice there were several app updates available immediately after I upgraded so maybe other apps just need updates to run better (I'm talking to up espn app)

But if u haven't updated the os maybe hold off til they have an update with bug fixes .........................

Interesting. I was talking to a guy today with the 3G and he was saying that iOS4 slowed his phone down significantly as well. I've got my 3GS on 3.1.3 and it's zipping right through. Honestly, I have no real reason to ever make the move up to iOS4 right now. I was thinking iBooks could be cool, but only for PDF, which I can do natively (and through QuickOffice) anyway. Now that I hear that it runs even slower, I'm not really interested in the upgrade ATM. .........................

I'll let you know if they fix it.  On it's face the new os is nicer then the old. They just need to fix the lag problem. .........................

Upgraded to os 4.0.1 tonight.  I'll see if it is faster.  One thing I did notice os my signal strength at home is now 3 bars instead of 5.

And that seems odd to me since it was always 4-5 under the old OS.  I winder if they overcompensated the other direction now. .........................

After using 4.0.1 for awhile now i'd say it is better and lot of the lag issues from the initial upgrade aren't there anymore.  Or at least aren't as bad now.  However, some apps are still unstable and close randomly and the internet browser has done the same to me a few times.

Better, but maybe still don't upgrade yet. .........................

Thanks for the update. I'm still happy with 3.1.3 for now. Maybe when 4.1 finally comes around I'll give it a go. Keep the status reports coming. .........................

Installed 4.0.2 tonight on my 3GS.  4.0.1 was getting buggier with each passing day.

My opinion on 4.0.2 coming soon... .........................

Well so far this update is great.  There is still some minimal lag sometimes when you begin typing in a browser box but nothing like before.  The netflix search used to take a minute or more per letter sometimes.  I assume it was because of the autocomplete function.  That appears to be fixed.

Also, so far no random crashing of Internet browsers which is nice.  And no locking up in apps.  The sports center app was locking up really bad alot right before I updated now it's back to running smooth.

One day down and zero complaints.
If this keeps up it could almost be recommended to upgrade ur 3GS.  Though I can't speak for the speed of things as compared to os 3 because it has been so long I can't remember how os 3 was. .........................

Weird, 4.0.2 should only have patched the PDF exploit used to jailbreak people at jailbreakme.com. As far as I've read, no other changes were made. I can't run 4.0.2 unless the exploit happens to be the same as the pending one for 4.1, but at that point, I'll just run 4.1.

I'm still on 3.1.3 but I do plan to upgrade one 4.1 is jailbroken and unlocked. I created a custom 4.0 release and I was considering running vanilla 4.0.1 and jailbreaking that on the device, but I've decided to wait a little but longer. 3.1.3 is still treating be quite well. .........................

It was  380 mb download.  So if it was just a patch apple needs a better way of updating stuff.

I'm sure they tweaked stuff. Since apple doesn't like to admit mistakes I'm sure they don't want to tell people they fixed lag/crashing issues.

Edit:  well crashing issues have returned.  Idk why it worked perfectly for 2 days and now has returned to it's old ways.  Must be from the memory flashing or something. .........................

Apple can't release just a "patch" with iOS, they have to release the entire image for the operating system. That's why there are no small incremental updates; you have to download a 300+mb file for each new release. There wasn't much time between the 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 release so it makes sense that not much changed. 4.0.2's main objective was to close the PDF hole before the baddies exploited it. Other small things may have changed, but none were reported and any major changes seem unlikely.

Anyway, like I said, I'm holding off for 4.1 to be jailbroken and unlocked. .........................
